Lung cancer awareness month aims to encourage people displaying the common symptoms of lung cancer, for example, a persistent cough, breathlessness or unexplained weight loss, to visit their GP.

Targeted Lung Health Checks, which help find more cancers quickly, is one of the first projects to be rolled out following the launch of The NHS Long Term Plan.

Smokers and ex-smokers aged between 55 and 75 will be offered free health checks and on-the-spot scans.

In this video, Dr Matthew Callister, Respiratory Medicines Consultant at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, explains how these health checks are helping to improve survival rates for people with lung cancer.
